Foxconn’s Q1 profit jumps 91% driven by AI server demand

Taiwan-based Foxconn, the world’s largest contract electronics manufacturer, reported a 91% increase in its first-quarter profit.

This growth was driven by strong demand for AI servers.

From January to March, the company posted a net profit of NT$42.12 billion (US$1.4 billion), surpassing the LSEG consensus estimate of NT$37.8 billion (US$1.25 billion).

This marks a significant rise from NT$22.01 billion (US$727.17 million) in the same period last year.

🧠 Food for thought

1️⃣ Contract manufacturers pivot from consumer electronics to AI infrastructure

Foxconn’s financial transformation highlights how manufacturing giants are repositioning in response to the AI boom.

While the company is still widely known as Apple’s iPhone assembler, cloud and networking products (including AI servers) now represent 26% of Foxconn’s total revenue, making it their second-largest revenue stream 1.

This strategic shift explains the 91% profit surge in Q1 2024, as AI server production offers potentially stronger margins than traditional electronics assembly.

The company is ambitiously projecting that AI servers alone will generate NT$1 trillion (US$33.3 billion) in revenue by 2025 and constitute 50% of its total server revenue 1.

This transition is occurring across the electronics manufacturing sector as companies race to capture value in the growing AI hardware supply chain, where demand currently outstrips production capacity.

2️⃣ Manufacturing giants building resilience against geopolitical tensions

Foxconn’s profit growth demonstrates how global manufacturers are successfully adapting to ongoing trade tensions.

Chairman Young Liu explicitly noted that the company has restructured its supply chain to mitigate risks associated with U.S. tariff policies, creating greater resilience compared to previous years 1.

This adaptation comes as manufacturing companies face increasing pressure to diversify production locations and reduce concentration risk, especially in politically sensitive industries like AI infrastructure.
