Foxconn subsidiary reportedly seeks Vietnam plant expansion

Fushan Technology, a subsidiary of Taiwanese electronics maker Foxconn, is seeking approval to expand its production facility in Vietnam, according to a document submitted to Bac Ninh province’s environmental department.

The company plans to manufacture Xbox gaming devices, electronic parts, and increase its phone production capacity by 30 million units to an annual total of 140 million.

It also intends to start making charging devices for smart rings and can produce up to 100,000 drones per year at the same site.

Factory upgrades have begun, with full operations targeted for April 2026.

Fushan Technology’s plant previously produced Nokia and Microsoft mobile devices.

Foxconn, known for supplying companies like Apple and Microsoft, has invested over US$3.2 billion in Vietnam since entering the market in the 2000s, with most operations located in Bac Ninh and Bac Giang provinces.

🧠 Food for thought

Implications, context, and why it matters.

The reported filing lacks customer and financial detail

  • The environmental permit filing leaves out customer names, such as Microsoft for Xbox or Apple for phones, and gives no purchase agreements to support a 30 million-phone buildout or Xbox output 1.
  • It gives no Stock Keeping Unit (SKU) detail or capital expenditure figures, which limits any public assessment of whether the expansion rests on firm orders or a speculative bet 1.
  • With no named contracts in the filing, outsiders cannot confirm if the April 2026 ramp matches booked demand or if it is prebuilt capacity 1.

Suppliers and local firms can pursue work linked to the expansion

  • The production boost plus new lines will lift demand for Surface-Mount Technology (SMT) tools and automation gear in Bac Ninh and Bac Giang 1. Testing plus certification will also pick up, as will packaging and logistics.
  • Component makers that supply Xbox devices, drone modules, or smart ring chargers can pursue localization (producing components within Vietnam rather than importing) around Foxconn’s northern Vietnam footprint 1. The company has invested over $3.2 billion there.
  • Sales and business development teams at equipment makers and component vendors should map Foxconn’s supplier onboarding and identify the specific industrial parks 2. Vietnam’s limited digital infrastructure means many potential local partners lack online visibility and need direct outreach.
