Foxconn said to invest $1.8b in India for AI

Foxconn has pledged to invest 15,000 crore rupee (US$1.8 billion) in Tamil Nadu to expand advanced manufacturing, AI-led technology, and research operations, according to the state’s industries minister TRB Rajaa.

The Taiwan-based electronics manufacturer already operates in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and Telangana.

Rajaa said the investment will create 14,000 high-value jobs, and marks the largest engineering jobs commitment for the state.

The announcement followed a meeting between Foxconn’s India representative Robert Wu and Tamil Nadu chief minister MK Stalin.

Tamil Nadu’s investment agency Guidance will set up the first Foxconn Desk in India to support the company’s expansion.

Foxconn is also in discussions with officials in Karnataka about strengthening its presence there and exploring new technology collaborations.
