Foxconn, Mitsubishi Fuso sign deal on zero-emission buses
Hon Hai Technology Group, also known as Foxconn, has signed an MOU with Japan-based Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corp. (MFTBC) to jointly develop zero-emission (ZEV) buses.
The agreement involves both companies’ subsidiaries—Foxtron Vehicle Technologies and Mitsubishi Fuso Bus Manufacturing Co.—and will focus on the development, production, and sale of ZEV buses.
The collaboration will begin with Foxtron-developed prototypes, Model T, and Model U.
Hon Hai said the partnership will also explore introducing Japan-made internal combustion engine and ZEV buses into target markets.
MFTBC, based in Kawasaki City, Japan, is majority-owned by Daimler Truck AG, and produces commercial vehicles, including the Super Great Truck, which features SAE Level 2-equivalent automated driving support.
This move follows a previous MOU in May between Foxtron and Mitsubishi Motors Corp. for EV model supply.
Hon Hai has been diversifying its business, with EVs as a central focus.

🧠 Food for thought
1️⃣ Electronics giants are systematically entering automotive through staged partnerships
Hon Hai’s bus partnership with Mitsubishi Fuso represents the second phase of a deliberate automotive expansion strategy that began with passenger vehicles.
The company first signed an MOU with Mitsubishi Motors in May 2024 to develop an EV model for Australia and New Zealand markets, scheduled to launch in the second half of 20262.
Now they’re extending this relationship into commercial vehicles, specifically zero-emission buses, through their respective subsidiaries Foxtron and Mitsubishi Fuso Bus Manufacturing1.
This sequential approach aligns with Hon Hai’s formal “3 plus 3” diversification strategy, which identifies electric vehicles as a core business alongside robots and digital healthcare1.
The strategy demonstrates how electronics manufacturers can leverage their existing manufacturing expertise and supplier relationships to enter automotive markets without the massive capital investments required to build car companies from scratch.
2️⃣ Commercial vehicle electrification is accelerating faster than passenger vehicles in key markets
