Foxconn market cap jumps 850x since Taiwan listing

Hon Hai Precision Industry’s market capitalization has jumped about 850 times since its 1991 listing on the Taiwan Stock Exchange, according to chairman Young Liu.

Hon Hai, also known as Foxconn and based in Taiwan, is the world’s largest contract electronics manufacturer.

Liu said Foxconn’s market value rose from NT$3.6 billion (US$112 million) to over NT$3 trillion (US$93 billion), while revenue reached NT$7 trillion (US$217 billion).

The company now operates 233 sites in 24 countries, up from 137 four years ago.

The workforce has dropped from a peak of 1 million to 930,000 as automation increases, and Liu said further reductions of about 15 percent annually are expected.
