Foxconn Technology Group founder Terry Gou has withdrawn from Taiwan’s presidential race and expressed hopes for an opposition candidate to prevail over the ruling Democratic Progressive Party.

This decision ends Gou’s long-standing ambitions. The founder has been facing a number of challenges including a probe into alleged cash payments for signatures and concerns over Beijing’s influence following a surprise investigation into Foxconn.
