Foxconn forecasts strong growth from AI servers as profit dips

Foxconn, formally known as Hon Hai Precision Industry, said it expects strong revenue growth in Q1 and for the full year driven by sustained strong demand for AI servers while reporting a 2% drop in quarterly net profit that lagged analyst estimates.

Net profit for October to December was T$45.2 billion (US$1.41 billion) vs. an LSEG consensus of T$63.9 billion (US$1.99 billion).

Foxconn used its highest qualitative outlook of “strong growth” for both Q1 and the full year but did not provide numeric targets.

It said, smart consumer electronics revenue should see significant year-on-year growth in Q1 and that it is building factories in Mexico and Texas to make AI servers for Nvidia.

Foxconn has also pursued EV projects and in August said it struck a deal to sell a former Lordstown, Ohio, car plant for US$375 million, including machinery.

Its shares have dropped 6% so far this year but closed up 0.9% on March 16 ahead of the results.

🧠 Food for thought

Implications, context, and why it matters.

Foxconn is betting its future on the AI server boom

  • Strong demand for AI servers suggests Foxconn, formally known as Hon Hai Precision Industry, is steering growth toward this segment rather than relying on a short-lived sales bump.
  • AI servers bring in 32% of Foxconn’s sales. Foxconn expects AI server revenue to top 1 trillion Taiwan dollars (about US$32.77 billion) this year, which equals about 50% of its total server business 1.
  • Foxconn is spending to meet that demand, including a US$168 million expansion of its plant in Jalisco, Mexico, to raise AI server output. Foxconn also ranks among the leading manufacturers of Nvidia’s GB200 servers (a Nvidia server platform designed for large-scale AI computing) 1.
  • Foxconn expects global AI server shipments to double next year 2.

The AI boom is reshaping global supply chains, with Mexico as a key beneficiary

  • Foxconn plans factories in Mexico and Texas to build AI servers for Nvidia. The move shifts more high-value hardware production closer to the US market.
  • The Mexico investment expands capacity for AI servers, including Nvidia’s GB200 servers, and supports nearshoring (moving production closer to end customers to reduce risk and shipping time) 1.
  • A shift away from lower-margin consumer electronics assembly toward AI infrastructure could change Mexico’s industrial structure over the next decade, according to Mexico News Daily’s reporting citing a local business group leader 1.
  • This approach gives other global manufacturers a model for sturdier supply chains amid geopolitical shifts, and it could speed up advanced manufacturing moves into North America 1.
