Ford drops $7.5k EV lease tax credit, follows GM
Ford has reversed its decision to let dealers pass a US$7,500 federal EV tax credit onto customers through leases after the subsidy expired on September 30.
The automaker said it will instead continue offering competitive lease payments without claiming the tax credit.
The move follows a similar decision from General Motors, which also canceled its plan to roll the credit into lease deals.
Previously, both Ford and GM had planned to claim the credit by purchasing EVs from dealer inventory through their lending units and applying the savings to leases.
Other automakers, such as Hyundai and Stellantis, are offering cash incentives to offset the loss.
It remains unclear why Ford ended the program, which followed discussions with the Internal Revenue Service.
