Flipkart co-founder starts Indian venture for branded goods

Binny Bansal, co-founder of Flipkart, has launched Opptra, a Singapore-based company specializing in franchising branded consumer goods.

Targeting the growing middle class in India, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East, Opptra sells fashion, electronics, and kitchenware through online platforms like Flipkart, Amazon, Noon.com, and Namshi.com.

The company is already gaining traction in the Middle East with brands like US Polo Association sneakers and Nautica apparel.

Formed six months ago with Bansal’s personal funds, Opptra employs 50 staff members, mainly in India, and plans to increase its workforce fourfold. The company projects US$100 million in revenue within 18 months.

It is also integrating AI for price optimization, inventory management, and customer support while exploring AI applications in legal, financial, and HR tasks, which could lead to an independent business unit.
