Flipkart appoints new CFO for ecommerce division
Flipkart has promoted Ravi Iyer to chief financial officer (CFO) of its ecommerce division, effective immediately.
The announcement was made through an internal memo by Flipkart Group CFO Sriram Venkataraman.
Iyer, previously senior vice president of the Corporate Business Unit, will now manage CFO responsibilities along with corporate development, group financial planning, investor relations, and the CEO’s office.
Iyer has been with Flipkart for over 11 years and previously worked at ITC for more than a decade.
This follows several leadership changes at Flipkart, including resignations of multiple vice presidents and senior talent moving to other firms.

🧠 Food for thought
1️⃣ Flipkart’s leadership restructuring reflects pre-IPO optimization efforts
Ravi Iyer’s promotion to Flipkart CFO comes amid a significant wave of executive departures that signal deeper organizational changes at the Walmart-backed company.
Over the past few months, Flipkart has seen multiple senior leaders exit, including executives from grocery, HR, analytics, and Cleartrip divisions, as reported in May 2025 1.
This restructuring aligns with Flipkart’s board directive to halve monthly cash burn from $40 million to $20 million, a critical step in preparing for its anticipated public offering 2.
The CFO transition appears strategic, as Iyer takes on additional responsibilities beyond finance, including corporate development, investor relations, and the CEO’s office, which are essential functions for a company preparing for public market scrutiny.
Despite these changes, Flipkart continues aggressive expansion in quick commerce and fintech, with plans to hire 5,000 employees in 2025 to support these growth initiatives 3.
2️⃣ E-commerce leadership continuity values long-term company knowledge
Ravi Iyer’s promotion showcases Flipkart’s tendency to elevate long-tenured executives with deep institutional knowledge, as he has spent over 11 years at the company after 12 years at ITC.
Similarly, his predecessor Sriram Venkataraman worked at Flipkart for a decade after spending 11 years at Hindustan Unilever, representing a pattern of executives with extensive experience in both e-commerce and traditional consumer businesses 4.
