Fiuu brings Apple Tap to Pay on iPhone to Malaysia

Fiuu said merchants in Malaysia can now use Apple’s Tap to Pay on iPhone to accept in-person contactless payments without separate card readers.

The feature lets merchants take contactless credit and debit cards, Apple Pay, and other digital wallets on an iPhone.

The rollout follows Fiuu’s December 2025 launch of Tap to Pay on iPhone in Singapore, and the company said brands including Allbirds Malaysia, Hedgren, Herschel Supply Co., Hydro Flask, and Kipling are using its payment tools.

🧠 Food for thought

Implications, context, and why it matters.

Fiuu’s iPhone payments fit a broader Southeast Asia push

  • Fiuu is Malaysia’s largest payment gateway by transaction volume. It reported US$13 billion in total payment volume in 2025 12.
  • Its 2026 regional plan includes direct acquiring for JCB and UnionPay International in selected markets. That lets Fiuu process card payments for merchants without another provider. It also plans to expand Visa instalment options from Malaysia into Singapore 2.
  • Formerly Razer Merchant Services (RMS), the payments arm once linked to gaming company Razer, Fiuu operates in eight markets. It supports more than 110 payment methods 3.

The iPhone is becoming a cash register and pressuring hardware sellers

  • The feature turns an iPhone into a payment terminal. That puts pressure on companies that sell or lease dedicated card readers 4.
  • Fiuu also faces pressure from HitPay, which has launched Tap to Pay on iPhone in Singapore 5.
  • The change pushes in-person payments toward software. Merchants can accept money away from fixed checkout counters, which can lower costs for pop-up shops or delivery services 6. Payment providers now compete on fees, settlement speed, and how closely their tools connect with mobile platforms like Apple’s 1.
