US IT firm ServiceNow to acquire data startup Pyramid Analytics

ServiceNow has announced plans to acquire Pyramid Analytics, a provider of AI-powered business analytics and data science platforms, in a deal subject to regulatory approval.

The acquisition aims to enhance ServiceNow’s ability to embed analytics and insights directly into workflows, enabling users to query data conversationally and automate responses.

Pyramid Analytics’ capabilities will be integrated with ServiceNow’s AI platform and Workflow Data Fabric, which connects and contextualizes data from various sources.

The move is intended to improve trust in data, support AI agents, and expand self-service analytics across enterprise functions.

ServiceNow plans to leverage Pyramid Analytics’ semantic layer to deliver more reliable insights and broaden its analytics offerings, including predictive analytics and cross-enterprise data connectivity.

🧠 Food for thought

Implications, context, and why it matters.

Pyramid’s technology is designed to address AI’s enterprise data privacy concerns

  • The deal brings AI-powered analytics and insights into ServiceNow workflows. Pyramid Analytics focuses on doing it securely.
  • A “privacy-preserving” approach sends metadata and semantic context (meaning the labels, definitions, and relationships that describe what the data represents) to large language models, not the actual confidential enterprise data itself 1.
  • Employees can query data in natural language while keeping sensitive information like customer details or financials out of external AI systems 1.
  • The platform combines data preparation, business analytics, and data science in one product. It aims to replace multiple disparate tools for customers 2.

The acquisition’s biggest impact may be empowering AI agents, not humans

  • The agreement speeds answers for employees inside ServiceNow workflows. The bigger effect supports “agentic automation” (where software agents can plan and carry out multi-step tasks with limited human input) 3.
  • ServiceNow AI agents can diagnose issues by asking questions in plain language. They can recommend solutions and execute fixes in a single workflow, according to ServiceNow’s gaurav rewari 3.
  • Rewari described an agent that surfaces a technical problem, opens and routes a case, suggests a solution, then implements the resolution in a connected workflow 3.
  • The move shifts business intelligence away from standalone dashboards toward operational platforms where automated agents act on insights directly 4.
