Fintech firm Infibeam raises $84.3m in oversubscribed rights issue

Infibeam Avenues has successfully completed its 700 crore rupees (US$84.3 million) rights issue, which was oversubscribed by 1.4 times.

Eligible shareholders were allowed to buy four new shares for every existing share at a price of 10 rupees (US$0.12) each.

During a meeting on July 15, 2025, the company allocated 69,99,85,723 partly paid-up equity shares.

The funds raised will support Infibeam’s growth initiatives in AI, digital payments, and selective acquisitions.

🧠 Food for thought

1️⃣ Diversified funding strategies are becoming crucial for fintech survival and growth

Infibeam’s heavily oversubscribed rights issue (1.4x) demonstrates strong investor confidence despite its relatively modest 5.3% profit growth in the latest quarter 1.

This success contrasts with the general funding environment for fintech companies, where traditional fundraising has become more challenging as investors demand clearer paths to profitability.

Rights issues provide existing shareholders preferential access to new shares, often at a discount, which can generate stronger participation rates compared to open market offerings. Infibeam’s offering of four new shares for every existing share at Rs 10 each proved particularly attractive.

The company’s targeted approach to fund allocation, specifying investments in AI development, payment solutions, and strategic acquisitions, provides investors with concrete growth plans rather than general operational funding.

This strategic clarity likely contributed to the oversubscription, as investors could directly connect the capital raise to Infibeam’s goal of expanding its 8% market share in India’s digital payments sector 2.

2️⃣ Indian digital payments landscape evolving rapidly with UPI driving transformation

India’s payments market is projected to grow from $409.91 billion in 2025 to $958.14 billion by 2030, reflecting an extraordinary 18.51% CAGR that significantly outpaces many other financial sectors 3.

Infibeam’s payment mix reveals important trends: credit cards still dominate at 45% of transactions, while UPI payments account for 21% of their volume, a significant portion that reflects UPI’s rapid adoption nationally 4.

UPI volumes are surging across India, with INR 24.77 lakh crore processed in March 2025 alone, representing a 25% increase from the previous year 3.
