Finnish quantum startup IQM raises $57m before IPO
IQM Quantum Computers, a Finnish quantum hardware and cloud access provider, secured 50 million euros (US$57.56 million) from funds managed by BlackRock as it prepares a dual listing in the US and Helsinki.
IQM plans to go public in the US via a SPAC merger at an initial valuation of about US$1.8 billion.
The new funding will support scaling, chip development, and efforts to reach profitability.
IQM said sales roughly doubled to about US$35 million last year and that it had more than US$100 million in bookings at year end, while BlackRock said in a social post that quantum computing could be a major computing shift.

🧠 Food for thought
Implications, context, and why it matters.
IQM sells most of its systems to top research centers
- IQM focuses on selling on-premise quantum computers, meaning systems installed at a customer site rather than accessed over the cloud. It leads global system shipments in this segment with a 15% unit share 1.
- This sales push has landed well-known buyers. IQM has sold 21 systems to institutions, including four of the world’s top ten supercomputing centers 2.
- IQM also earns revenue from quantum data centers in Finland and Germany that offer cloud-based access to its machines 3.
IQM’s public listing puts deep tech pricing under pressure
- IQM plans to go public in the U.S. through a special purpose acquisition company (SPAC), meaning a shell company that raises money to merge with a private company and take it public. The deal values IQM at about $1.8 billion, setting a high bar for rivals like Infleqtion and PsiQuantum 4.
- Market skepticism remains likely. Public quantum competitor IonQ also listed with big expectations, yet it still brings in minimal revenue, which keeps the sector in a pre-profit era 5.
- Listing on the U.S. Nasdaq, a major U.S. stock exchange focused on technology companies, continues a European deep tech pattern of seeking larger capital pools than local markets provide 6.
- IQM has also adopted a co-CEO structure. The change separates fundraising workload from day-to-day execution needed to deliver on bookings 7.
