Figma gives upbeat outlook as AI attracts more users

Figma beat Wall Street expectations for Q3 revenue and issued a strong forecast for the next quarter, sending its stock up as much as 6% in after-hours trading.

The company, which develops cloud-based design software, reported US$274.2 million in Q3 revenue, up 38% year-on-year and above the US$265.2 million consensus.

Figma posted an adjusted earnings per share of 10 cents, and an adjusted operating margin of 12%.

Net loss widened to US$1.1 billion, with adjusted earnings per share excluding a major increase in stock-based compensation.

Growth was partly driven by Figma Make, a tool that uses generative AI to create app and website designs, with about 30% of customers spending over US$100,000 in annualized revenue using it weekly.

Figma expects Q4 revenue between US$292 million and US$294 million, projecting 35% growth.

🧠 Food for thought

Implications, context, and why it matters.

Figma expansion tied to AI features

  • Net dollar retention (how much recurring revenue from existing customers grows after upgrades and churn) for accounts spending at least $10,000 a year reached 131%, up from 129% in Q2 1. Existing accounts are paying more, a metric the news article missed.
  • Figma added 140 net customers in the $100,000+ annual spend tier in Q3, up from 88 in Q2 2. The Make product is converting into durable revenue expansion rather than one-off tests.
  • Over 70% of customers now use three or more Figma products 2. This depth lowers churn risk and backs up the multi-product strategy beyond the core design tool.
  • These expansion metrics set Figma apart from rivals with standalone AI tools. Customers are deepening commitments instead of isolated tests.

Growing Figma use opens doors for integrators and trainers

  • Figma’s service partner directory lists systems integrators (consultancies that implement and connect software across a client’s tech stack) like Baseline Design and Slalom 3. The company says these firms help customers with implementation, migration, and training 4. International revenue rose 42% 2, which opens room for more regional providers.
  • AI-native workflows (processes designed from the ground up to use AI) with Figma Make are boosting demand for design-to-code integrations and design system governance, areas emphasized by certified partners such as Rangle 5.
  • Developer-tool vendors have an opening. Figma launched integrations with GitHub, Notion, and Linear in Q3 2, which signals openness to expand its ecosystem for workflow automation.
  • Training firms can target the 90,000 paid teams added over two quarters 2. Many of these groups need structured onboarding to get value and avoid low adoption.
