Figma says Anthropic’s Mike Krieger left its board
Figma disclosed in an SEC filing on April 14 that Anthropic CPO Mike Krieger stepped down from its board.
Figma, a US design software company, said the move was not linked to any disagreement over its operations, policies, or practices. The change follows a February partnership for Figma to add Anthropic’s Claude AI models as design assistants.
Krieger joined Anthropic in 2024 and moved to its Labs team in January, while Anthropic released an update to its Opus model family.

🧠 Food for thought
Implications, context, and why it matters.
Anthropic’s new design tool turns it from Figma partner to direct rival
- Anthropic launched Claude Design, which lets people work with Claude to produce visual materials such as designs, prototypes, slides, and one-pagers 1.
- The release puts Anthropic in competition with Figma, whose AI features assist inside Figma’s interface instead of handling the first draft of the work 2.
- Anthropic moves beyond being a base-model provider and toward building an end-to-end product for creative work 2.
- That backdrop helps explain Mike Krieger leaving Figma’s board after Figma partnered with Anthropic in February to add Anthropic’s Claude AI models as design assistants. Figma said the departure was not tied to any dispute over its operations, policies, or practices.
The new front in AI competition is the entire software workflow
- AI models increasingly run the workflow, not just add-ons inside existing apps 3.
- Established software is adjusting by acting as AI-callable “subcontractors” for narrow jobs 4.
- MockFlow, a design platform, uses Anthropic’s Model Context Protocol (MCP), an open standard created by Anthropic, so Claude can connect to tools such as WireframePro to generate and render a wireframe 4.
- This shift pressures design software leaders like Figma, plus design agencies and in-house teams that charge for hands-on implementation work 2.
