US robotics startup FieldAI raises $405m from Bezos, Temasek

FieldAI has raised US$405 million across two recent funding rounds from investors including Bezos Expeditions, BHP Ventures, Canaan Partners, Emerson Collective, Intel Capital, Khosla Ventures, NVentures, Prysm, and Temasek.

The US-based company develops general-purpose robotics intelligence software for autonomous robots used in industries such as construction, energy, and manufacturing.

FieldAI said its platform has been tested and deployed across hundreds of industrial sites globally, with robots operating in regions including Japan, Europe, and the US.

The company plans to use the new capital to support global expansion, product development in locomotion and manipulation, and hiring as it aims to double its workforce by year-end.

FieldAI’s software uses proprietary “physics-first” foundation models designed to enable robots to navigate complex, unstructured environments without prior mapping or GPS.

The company’s leadership team includes former staff from DeepMind, Google Brain, Tesla Autopilot, NASA JPL, and other major robotics and AI organizations.

🧠 Food for thought

1️⃣ Robotics startups are achieving unprecedented valuations in record time

FieldAI’s trajectory from founding to a $2 billion valuation illustrates how quickly robotics companies can scale when they demonstrate real-world deployment capabilities.

The company was founded in 2023 and has already raised $405 million across two funding rounds, reaching a valuation that jumped from $500 million to $2 billion in their latest round2.

This rapid ascension reflects broader investor enthusiasm for robotics, with global funding in the sector reaching $18.6 billion in 2024—a 116% increase from the previous year2.

FieldAI’s success stems from its practical approach of deploying robots across hundreds of complex industrial environments rather than focusing solely on research and development1.

The company’s ability to attract marquee investors including Bezos Expeditions, NVIDIA’s NVentures, and Khosla Ventures demonstrates how established tech leaders are prioritizing robotics investments1.

2️⃣ Industrial robotics companies are differentiating through specialized AI architectures

FieldAI’s approach of building “physics-first” foundation models from the ground up represents a departure from the common practice of adapting language and vision models for robotics applications.
