Ferrari to launch digital token for exclusive client members

Ferrari plans to launch a digital token for members of its Hyperclub.

The cryptocurrency asset will allow its wealthiest clients to bid on a Ferrari 499P, the endurance car that won three consecutive Le Mans titles.

The Italian sports car maker is working with fintech firm Conio to introduce the “Token Ferrari 499P.”

The token will be tradable among Hyperclub members and is expected to debut at the start of the 2027 World Endurance Championship season

Ferrari began accepting cryptocurrency payments for car purchases in the US in 2023 and later extended the service to Europe.

Conio is seeking a license under the European Union’s new cryptocurrency regulation before the token’s full launch.

The Hyperclub is limited to about 100 exclusive Ferrari customers focused on endurance racing.

🧠 Food for thought

Implications, context, and why it matters.

EU crypto licensing may delay Ferrari’s token auction past 2027

  • Ferrari’s planned Token Ferrari 499P faces uncertainty under the European Union’s Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA). Crypto-asset service providers (CASPs) custody, trade, or issue crypto and need authorization before operating. Conio, an Italian fintech in the project, is applying 1.
  • Asset-referenced tokens link to a basket of assets, while electronic money tokens peg to one fiat currency, which triggers stricter rules like detailed whitepapers and stronger consumer protections 1.
  • Even if it is a utility token for auction access, issuers still need a crypto-asset white paper under MiCA 1. The document is a regulated disclosure that must go to the competent authority unless an exemption applies.
  • The MiCA transition for existing providers can run until 1 July 2026 1. Some member states ended it sooner, and Conio still needs the right license before launch.

Luxury brands can use EU-licensed crypto platforms

  • Luxury teams planning tokenized auctions or loyalty programs need MiCA-licensed crypto-asset service providers (CASPs) 1. These firms hold an EU passport, a single license for cross-border operations across member states.
  • Tech builders should team up with CASPs that won licenses in late 2024 or early 2025 2. Approvals came from the Netherlands, Malta, and Germany 2.
  • Compliance tools for high value asset tokenization are a clear opening 1. Platforms must run surveillance systems, set anti market manipulation controls, and publish detailed risk disclosures under MiCA.
  • MiCA creates uniform EU market rules 3. Licensed platforms become easier to scale for tokenized luxury experiences across all member states.
