US FCC to ban imports of Huawei, ZTE equipment in July

The US Federal Communications Commission said on June 26 that it will ban imports of equipment from Chinese manufacturers Huawei, ZTE, Hytera, Hikvision, and Dahua, in Washington’s latest move targeting Chinese-made electronic equipment.

The ban will take effect in July.

In 2022, the FCC barred approvals of new telecommunications equipment from Huawei and ZTE, and new telecommunications and video surveillance equipment from Hytera, Hikvision, and Dahua, after placing the five companies on its Covered List of firms deemed to pose US national security risks.

That 2022 order, adopted to implement the Secure Equipment Act, did not apply to previously authorised products.

It blocked new equipment authorisation pathways, effectively preventing newly covered equipment from being imported or marketed in the United States.
