The FBI has linked a US$1.5 billion crypto theft from Bybit to North Korean cyber actors, specifically the group “TraderTraitor.”

The attack occurred around Feb. 21, with the stolen assets quickly being converted into Bitcoin and other virtual currencies.

These funds are being spread across thousands of blockchain addresses, likely to be laundered before conversion to fiat currency.

The FBI has released a list of ethereum addresses tied to the stolen assets and urges blockchain service providers to block transactions involving them. This move aims to disrupt laundering efforts.

Entities with relevant information are encouraged to report through the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center at ic3.gov.

The incident underscores concerns about North Korea’s use of cybercrime to fund operations, with the FBI committed to countering illicit activities in the crypto sector.
