Allegations of racism at Samsung Research America (SRA) have expanded to encompass Samsung Electronics’ United States unit and its headquarters in South Korea.

The lawsuit, initiated by Andrew Mo, a former senior engineer at SRA, claims wrongful termination due to his report of a racist remark.

Mo, who led the Visual Display Intelligence Lab at SRA, originally filed the lawsuit in December 2022 after being dismissed in January 2022.

He alleges that his termination was in retaliation for reporting a comment made by an SRA vice president in late 2021, which suggested excluding “people with dark skin” from a demonstration for Samsung Executive Chairman Lee Jae-yong.

In February 2025, Mo requested a modification in the Superior Court of California to add Samsung Electronics and its US unit as defendants.
