Expedia surpasses Q4 forecasts on strong holiday travel
Expedia Group reported strong fourth quarter of 2024 results, surpassing expectations due to high holiday travel demand. Gross bookings reached US$24.4 billion, exceeding analyst forecasts of US$23.3 billion.
Customers booked 86.4 million nights across its platforms, including Expedia.com, Hotels.com, and Vrbo, which also outperformed analysts’ predictions.
This strong performance was noted in its hotel, flight, car rental, and vacation rental services.
Following the earnings report, Expedia’s shares rose by 9% in after-hours trading after experiencing a 7.4% decline earlier in the year.
The company also reinstated its quarterly dividend at 40 cents per share, effective March 2025.
While it expects bookings to rise 4% to 6%, this is slightly below the 6.8% average estimate.
A stronger US dollar presents challenges but may create opportunities for American travelers seeking overseas deals.
These results highlight strong travel industry trends, with US airlines like Delta and United seeing high international travel demand.
