Ex-Huawei exec jailed over healthcare tech bribery case
A Singaporean former Huawei account director was sentenced to five months and two weeks in jail for offering bribes linked to a 2022 trip to Paris worth over S$18,000 (US$14,000).
Peng Ming conspired with a director from another IT firm to bribe an engineer at the national health agency, IHiS, now known as Synapxe, to secure Huawei’s involvement in a government contract.
Peng falsely claimed that the engineer and his wife were IHiS directors to gain sponsorship for the trip, which included flights, hotels, and entertainment expenses.
He also paid bribes to an IHiS engineer to obtain internal contacts and influence procurement processes.
Peng and his co-conspirators later submitted false declarations to Huawei to justify the trip expenses.
The case is part of an ongoing investigation into corruption involving multiple individuals connected to Huawei and IHiS, with Peng being the last of the trio to be sentenced.
