Ex-Intel CEO joins venture capital firm Playground Global
Pat Gelsinger, the former CEO of Intel, has joined the venture capital firm Playground Global as a general partner.
Playground Global, founded in 2015 by Andy Rubin and others, specializes in early-stage investments in deep technology.
The firm announced that Gelsinger will also join the board of xLight, a company developing laser technologies for semiconductor manufacturing.
After 45 years in the tech industry, Gelsinger initially considered starting his own venture firm. However, he chose Playground Global for its established structure.
Gelsinger’s career includes three decades at Intel, where he became the company’s first chief technology officer before leaving in 2009.
