EU plans to ban non-EVs for fleets starting 2030: report
The European Commission is drafting a proposal to prohibit car-rental companies and large corporations from purchasing non-electric vehicles for their fleets starting in 2030, according to the German newspaper Bild.
If enacted, the regulation would require companies such as Sixt SE and Europcar Mobility Group SA to buy only electric vehicles from that date.
Bild reports that the measure could affect around 60% of new car sales.
The Commission plans to present the proposal later this summer before seeking parliamentary approval.
This initiative aims to accelerate the EU’s plan to phase out combustion engine vehicle sales, which is currently scheduled for 2035.
The European Commission confirmed to Bild that it is working on new regulations but did not provide additional details.
