EU fines Google with $3.5b over adtech antitrust practices

The European Commission has fined Google €2.95 billion (US$3.5 billion) for anti-competitive practices in its ad technology business.

Regulators said Google unfairly favored its own display ad services, harming rival providers, advertisers, and publishers.

The company, owned by Alphabet, was ordered to stop these practices and fix conflicts of interest in its adtech supply chain.

Google has 60 days to respond and said it plans to appeal, calling the decision “wrong.”

It warned the changes could impact European businesses and expects to record the fine in Q3.
