The European Commission has asked Microsoft, Apple, Google, and Booking to provide details on how they prevent financial fraud on their platforms.

The request comes under the Digital Services Act, which applies to large online platforms with over 45 million EU users.

A Commission spokesperson said the step is aimed at ensuring these services are not exploited by scammers, and that platforms fulfill their responsibilities to protect users.

The inquiry does not mean that a formal proceeding has begun.

The DSA, enforced since 2023, covers 25 major platforms, with oversight including Amazon, Facebook, Instagram, X, and TikTok.

So far, the Commission has launched formal proceedings against ten platforms, including, among others, AliExpress, Pornhub, Facebook, Instagram, XNXX, Stripchat, TikTok, X, Temu, and Xvideos, but none have concluded.
