Equinix has opened its first AI-ready data center in Chennai, India, with an initial investment of US$69 million to provide 800 cabinets of capacity.

Equinix operates more than 270 data centers globally and hosts over 300 companies in India, including network service providers and internet exchanges.

The new Chennai facility, called CN1, is located in Siruseri and is interconnected with Equinix’s three data centers in Mumbai.

Equinix said CN1 is designed for high reliability, with a fault-tolerant setup targeting 99.999% uptime, and supports liquid cooling for high-density workloads.

The site is built on nearly six acres of land and will eventually offer 4,250 cabinets when fully developed.
