Epic Games sees 60% fewer user drop-offs after Apple’s update

Epic Games said user drop-offs decreased by 60% after Apple updated its installation workflow for alternative app stores on iOS 18.6.

Apple, under pressure from the EU’s Digital Markets Act, revised its process in July to streamline third-party app marketplace installations, reducing the number of warning screens users encounter.

Epic Games, the company behind Fortnite, reported that the abandonment rate for installing its game store on iPhones fell from 65% to 25% after the update, aligning more closely with installation rates on Windows and macOS.

Despite the improvement, Epic Games criticized Apple for continuing to charge a core technology fee and maintaining policies that restrict app distribution outside the App Store.
