Elevation Capital launches $400m fund for IPO-bound startups
Elevation Capital has launched a US$400 million late-stage fund, Elevation Holdings, to invest in 10 to 15 tech-focused companies nearing a public listing.
Elevation Capital is a venture capital firm based in India that has backed startups such as Paytm, Swiggy, and Meesho.
The fund will target 10–15 companies with investments ranging from $20 million to $50 million, according to co-managing partner Mukul Arora.
Elevation Holdings will primarily target profitable or soon-to-be-profitable firms in the consumer and financial services sectors that are within three years of going public.
The new fund has already invested in used-car marketplace Spinny and may back both portfolio and external startups.
This move comes as Indian venture capital adapts to a slowdown in private growth capital, and more startups look to public markets for expansion and liquidity.

🧠 Food for thought
1️⃣ Late-stage funding gap forces VCs to create new investment vehicles
Elevation Capital’s $400 million late-stage fund reflects a broader structural shift in India’s venture capital market driven by a critical funding shortage.
The firm explicitly noted that “large pools of private growth capital have dried up, forcing startups to increasingly look to the public markets for scale and liquidity” 1.
This gap became pronounced after VC funding in India dropped 65% in 2023 to $9.6 billion from $25.7 billion in 2022, creating a desert for companies needing growth capital before going public 2.
The timing is particularly strategic as over a dozen companies including Lenskart, PhysicsWallah, and Groww have filed draft IPO papers, indicating strong demand for pre-public funding 1.
Elevation’s focus on companies “not more than three years away from going public” with clear profitability pathways demonstrates how VCs are adapting to bridge this specific funding gap rather than competing in the crowded early-stage market.
2️⃣ Secondary-focused funds emerge as VCs adapt to market realities
The proliferation of secondary funds in India signals a fundamental strategy shift as traditional VC models face pressure from longer exit timelines and valuation corrections.
