US electronics firm Molex signs $6.4b deal with Prysmian

Prysmian, an Italian cable maker, said it signed a long-term supply agreement worth up to 5.5 billion euros (US$6.4 billion) with Molex, a US-based electronics company owned by Koch, to provide fibre optic cables for data centers for up to 10 years.

The deal includes a 550 million euros (US$628 million) upfront payment.

Prysmian plans to invest 1.25 billion euros (US$1.42 billion) through 2031 to expand optical cable and fibre production, including doubling its US capacity, after it previously expanded optical cable output in Jackson, Tennessee.

Molex supplies fibre connectors and optical interconnect products for hyperscale, cloud, and edge data centers.

Prysmian said the investment will add 1,000 jobs globally, including 600 in the US, and is part of other agreements with hyperscalers and data center infrastructure providers tied to AI-driven demand.
