Electronic Arts Q1 bookings below analyst estimates
Electronic Arts, a video game publisher based in Redwood City, California, reported first-quarter bookings of US$1.35 billion for the period ended June 30, below analysts’ estimate of US$1.48 billion.
Net profit rose to US$397 million from US$201 million a year earlier.
Recurring spending remained a large part of the business.
Live services contributed US$1.08 billion of about US$1.3 billion in quarterly bookings, compared with US$214 million from full-game sales.
EA previously said Battlefield 6 launched on October 10 and sold more than 7 million copies in its first three days.
However, the disclosures reviewed did not quantify any subsequent decline in player engagement.
The company guided for second-quarter bookings of US$1.8 billion to US$1.9 billion.
The available materials did not show an explicit change to full-year guidance.
EA is also working toward a US$55 billion take-private deal with an investor consortium that includes Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, Silver Lake, and Affinity Partners, after receiving European Union clearance.
