East Ventures joins Vietnamese edtech company’s $10m round

Galaxy Education (GE), a Vietnamese education technology company, has raised nearly US$10 million in funding from East Ventures and other investors.

Based in Ho Chi Minh City, GE achieved profitability in the first quarter of 2025.

This funding follows positive EBITDA in its K-12 (kindergarten to 12th grade) segment, which occurred in April 2024.

The funds will support GE’s national English as a Second Language (ESL) program.

The company also runs Hpcmao, a K-12 online learning platform, and FUNiX, an online university focused on vocational and digital skills.

Founded in 2020, Galaxy Education has served over 8 million learners in Vietnam and 34 countries.

🧠 Food for thought

1️⃣ Vietnam’s rare edtech profitability signals sector maturation

Galaxy Education’s achievement of full profitability is remarkable in a landscape where most edtech companies struggle financially despite substantial market size.

The Vietnamese edtech market is valued at approximately US$3.5 billion, making it one of the top three in Southeast Asia, yet profitability remains elusive for most players in the sector1.

This profitability breakthrough comes despite challenging conditions that have affected edtech globally, with Galaxy’s achievement standing in stark contrast to the “widespread sector struggles” mentioned in the news.

The company’s focus on financial discipline while maintaining quality differentiates it in a market projected to reach US$5.4 billion by 2028, suggesting a potential shift toward more sustainable business models in the region’s edtech landscape2.

Galaxy’s journey represents a potential template for sustainability in a sector that has historically prioritized growth over profitability, demonstrating that quality-focused education technology can achieve both scale and financial health.

2️⃣ Government policy alignment creates strategic advantage

Galaxy Education’s funding success is notably tied to its strategic alignment with Vietnam’s national education priorities, particularly around English language proficiency.
