US eases export curbs on UAE for AI chips
The Trump administration plans to ease US export restrictions on the United Arab Emirates under a Commerce Department notice posted on July 10.
The move could widen the Gulf state’s access to advanced US products, including AI chips and commercial satellites.
The change could also advance an earlier deal between the US and the UAE for Nvidia, Advanced Micro Devices, and Cerebras Systems to supply processors to G42, an Abu Dhabi-based state-backed technology company, for new AI data centers in the region.
G42 said earlier that US approval for advanced AI chip exports would support the 1-gigawatt Stargate UAE compute cluster and a broader 5-gigawatt UAE-US AI campus.
The policy shift follows steps by the UAE and G42 to address US concerns about protecting sensitive technology. Those steps included G42’s divestment from Chinese companies and its compliance framework for US-supplied chips.
Still, the easing may face political scrutiny.
A letter from members of the US House of Representatives alleged that a May 2025 approval covered 500,000 chips for the UAE and urged an investigation into diversion and conflict of interest risks.
