Dutch firm QuiX Quantum raises $16.2m to launch quantum computer

QuiX Quantum, a Dutch photonic quantum computing company, has raised €15 million (US$16.25 million) in a series A funding round.

The financing was co-led by Invest-NL and the EIC Fund, with contributions from PhotonVentures, Oost NL, and FORWARD.one.

The funding will support the development of QuiX Quantum’s first-generation universal photonic quantum computer.

The series A funding aims to strengthen Europe’s quantum photonic ecosystem and enhance the European supply chain for quantum technology.

This system is expected to be delivered in 2026 and will implement a universal gate set, enabling a variety of quantum operations and advancing large-scale, fault-tolerant quantum computing.

Founded in 2019, QuiX Quantum has previously sold 8-qubit and 64-qubit photonic quantum computers to the German Aerospace Center.

🧠 Food for thought

1️⃣ Photonic quantum computing offers distinct scaling advantages in the quantum race

QuiX Quantum’s approach stands out in the competitive quantum computing landscape through its use of photonic technology operating at room temperature, avoiding the extreme cooling requirements of other quantum approaches.

Their silicon-nitride chips are specifically designed for high-volume manufacturing, scalability, and energy efficiency, making them fully compatible with existing data center environments 1.

This room-temperature operation represents a significant practical advantage for commercial applications, as many competing quantum technologies require cooling to near absolute zero (-273°C), adding substantial operational complexity and cost.

The photonic approach also addresses key adoption barriers through its compatibility with standard data center infrastructure, making it more accessible to organizations without specialized quantum facilities 2.

These architectural choices are strategically positioned to address one of quantum computing’s persistent challenges: moving from laboratory demonstrations to practical, commercially viable systems.

2️⃣ European quantum strategy aims to transform scientific strength into market leadership

QuiX Quantum’s €15 million funding reflects the broader European push to convert the continent’s strong scientific foundation in quantum physics into commercial leadership.
