ASML opens new chip equipment hub in South Korea
ASML has completed construction of a new semiconductor equipment manufacturing plant in Hwaseong, South Korea, the country’s industry ministry said on November 13, 2025.
The Netherlands-based company is the largest producer of extreme ultraviolet (EUV) lithography systems, which are essential for advanced chip production.
The 16,000-square-meter facility, called the New Campus, will function as a manufacturing and repair hub for equipment like EUV and deep ultraviolet systems.
The site also includes a training center focused on technology transfer.
About 1,500 ASML Korea staff are expected to relocate to the new campus by the end of 2025.

🧠 Food for thought
Implications, context, and why it matters.
ASML’s Korea expansion centers on service infrastructure over manufacturing
- Hwaseong campus is a Local Repair Center, an on-site hub that refurbishes, calibrates, and services installed lithography modules 1. It also trains technicians, and it does not assemble new lithography systems 1. The 240 billion won spend goes to service capacity and workforce training 2.
- Local sourcing will rise from 10% to 50% for repair parts 3. That shift trims reliance on ASML support outside Korea, which can cut downtime for Samsung and SK hynix (a major memory chipmaker) 3. This plan centers on service rather than new system output 1.
- Training centers will educate over 2,000 people each year 2, lifting global extreme ultraviolet (EUV) technician training capacity by about 30% 3. This talent pipeline eases the bottleneck in specialized workforce availability rather than equipment supply constraints.
Korean component suppliers can plug into ASML’s localization push through set channels
- ASML plans to raise Korean sourcing for repair parts and components 3. That opens doors for suppliers across precision engineering, electronics, semiconductor materials if they meet ASML quality standards.
- SupplierNet is ASML’s secure portal for existing suppliers 4. You can request an account only if you are already a supplier 4. Prospective firms should first engage an ASML sourcing lead (a procurement representative) to discuss capabilities, and they need to meet the company’s Responsible Business Alliance (RBA) Code of Conduct requirements 4.
