Dropbox to cut 20% of workforce amid AI transition

Dropbox announced plans to reduce its global workforce by 20%, impacting 528 employees.

CEO Drew Houston shared this information in a note to staff on Wednesday.

The decision comes as Dropbox shifts its operations, driven by the maturity of its file synchronization services and Dash AI search technology.

This move follows a previous workforce reduction of 16% in April 2023, which affected 500 employees.

Houston said the current company structure and investment cannot be sustained amid declining demand and macroeconomic challenges.

The layoffs will target areas identified as either over-invested or underperforming.

Affected employees will receive 16 weeks of severance pay. They will also receive an additional week for each year of service.
