Doosan Q2 profit rises 38% on AI demand

Doosan Corp. said on July 27 that its second-quarter operating profit rose 37.8% year on year to 488.4 billion won (US$332 million).

Revenue reached 5.6 trillion won (US$3.8 billion), as demand tied to AI servers and semiconductors lifted its operating margin to 8.7%.

Doosan, a South Korean industrial group, said its Electronics Business Group posted record quarterly revenue of 765.2 billion won (US$520 million) and operating profit of 212 billion won (US$144 million).

This growth was driven by sales of high-value electronic materials for AI servers and high-performance semiconductors.

Copper clad laminate, or CCL, is among Doosan Electronics’ products used in AI substrates.

Doosan said its in-house businesses are targeting about 3.2 trillion won (US$2.18 billion) in revenue this year.

Its electro-materials unit expecting 1.5 trillion won (US$1.02 billion) in second-half sales driven by AI and semiconductor demand.

Affiliate Doosan Enerbility, a South Korean power equipment company, reported 4.7 trillion won (US$3.21 billion) in revenue and 314.3 billion won (US$214 million) in operating profit.

The company said it is targeting 13.3 trillion won (US$9.04 billion) in annual orders.

Doosan Bobcat, which makes construction and industrial equipment, posted 2.5 trillion won (US$1.67 billion) in revenue and 291.7 billion won (US$198 million) in operating profit.

Part of that gain came from early recognition of an expected one-off US$81 million US tariff refund, with the refund expected in the second half.
