Doosan to build Thailand AI materials plant with $110m loan
The Export-Import Bank of Korea said it will provide US$110 million to Doosan for a planned copper-clad laminate plant in Thailand.
The funding will support a 180 billion won (US$119 million) project serving AI infrastructure and networking equipment as manufacturers diversify supply chains beyond China.
Doosan, a South Korean industrial group, plans to build the facility through its electro-materials business at a 73,000-square-meter site in Araya Industrial Park in Samut Prakan.
Construction is due to start this year, and mass production is set to begin in the second half of 2028.
Copper-clad laminate is a copper-coated insulating sheet used to make printed circuit boards.
Higher-end grades are used in AI servers and high-speed networking equipment because they reduce signal loss and withstand higher heat.
Eximbank said the financing followed an April memorandum of understanding with Doosan and was the first step in supporting the group’s broader AI value chain.
The bank said it was also considering support for affiliates including Doosan Tesna, a semiconductor testing company; Doosan Robotics, a robotics developer; and Doosan Enerbility, which is expanding its small modular reactor business.
