US calls ChatGPT executive in Google antitrust case
The United States Department of Justice (DOJ) has called Nick Turley, head of product at OpenAI’s ChatGPT, to testify in its antitrust case against Google, following a 2024 ruling that identified Google as a monopoly in search.
Although Google is appealing the decision, the DOJ is exploring potential remedies, including forcing a sale of Chrome or restricting new browsers.
Turley is expected to testify on the role of generative AI in search, data-sharing, and market access.
Google has subpoenaed OpenAI for documents, including those before ChatGPT’s 2022 launch, but OpenAI is contesting the request as excessive.
A court intervention is being sought to limit Google’s demands.
No comments have been made by the involved parties, and the testimony date is still pending.
