Disney+ plans AI-generated user content

Disney CEO Bob Iger said the company is exploring the use of AI-generated videos on Disney+, its video-streaming platform, during an earnings call on November 13, 2025.

Iger said that AI could enable viewers to create and watch short-form videos directly on the service but did not provide details on implementation.

He also suggested Disney+ may add game-like features through its partnership with Epic Games, and hinted at future integration of commerce options, such as booking visits to Disney parks or cruises.

Disney+ added 1.5 million subscribers in the US and Canada in Q4 2025, reaching 59.3 million in North America.

🧠 Food for thought

Implications, context, and why it matters.

Disney’s AI video plans remain speculative without technical groundwork

  • The announced plan to let users create AI videos on Disney+ lacks visible support in current operations. Disney Research (the company’s research and development lab) is hiring for 3D generative AI roles focused on themed entertainment design workflows 1. Those positions target park experiences, not the streaming app.
  • Disney has machine learning roles in Ad Platforms, Customer Support Systems, and analytics 2. None mention generative video tools for Disney+ or the moderation system needed for user content at scale.
  • Teams need tools and processes that block harmful or illegal content. Current tech job posts do not reveal Disney building these capabilities in-house 23.

Content moderation vendors see opportunity if streamers adopt AI-generated user-generated content (UGC)

  • If Disney+ and competing streaming services enable user-generated AI videos, they’ll need third-party moderation solutions to avoid building costly in-house systems. Amazon Rekognition is a cloud image and video analysis service from Amazon Web Services 4. Platforms like SmugMug and Flickr (consumer photo platforms) use it to analyze photos at scale.
  • Startups and investors in AI/ML infrastructure face demand across three layers. Needs span real-time moderation APIs, copyright plus intellectual property detection, plus provenance tools like the Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity (C2PA) watermarking. Amazon Rekognition offers usage-based pricing 4 which cuts upfront licensing needs.
  • Gaming platforms like Dream11, an India-based fantasy sports service, use cloud moderation to review user content at scale 4. Entertainment companies can expand review without building proprietary systems.
