Dell wins $9.7b Pentagon software contract

Dell Technologies won a five-year contract worth about US$9.7 billion to supply Microsoft software and cloud subscriptions to the US military.

Through Dell Federal Systems, the deal covers Microsoft 365, advanced cloud subscriptions, and on-premises licensing.

It aims to centralize software purchasing across the Pentagon, the intelligence community, and the US Coast Guard.

Defense officials said the agreement should reduce redundant licensing and save about US$422 million a year by combining existing information technology budgets into one purchasing vehicle.

The contract is separate from the Pentagon’s broader multi-cloud infrastructure program involving Microsoft, Amazon, Google, and Oracle.
