Delivery Hero-owned Spanish food delivery app Glovo will transition thousands of its delivery drivers in Spain to an employment-based model.

This change affects about 15,000 drivers across more than 900 locations.

The decision comes after government pressure to provide employment contracts to app-based workers.

In recent years, Glovo faced fines for labor law violations, including misclassifying riders and employing undocumented immigrants.

Although shifting to an employment model, Glovo emphasized the value of freelance flexibility.
