DeepSeek quietly updates open-source model for math proofing

Chinese AI startup DeepSeek has launched its latest model, Prover-V2, on the open-source platform Hugging Face.

The announcement was made on April 30, 2025 but the company did not share details on its social media accounts.

Prover-V2 is part of the Prover series, focused on solving math-related problems.

This release follows the debut of its predecessor, Prover-V1.5, which was introduced in August 2024.

Prover-V2 is based on DeepSeek’s V3 model, which features 671 billion parameters and utilizes a mixture-of-experts architecture for improved efficiency.

Details on Prover-V2 are scarce, as DeepSeek has not provided further information on its Hugging Face page.

However, uploaded files suggest that the model is designed to enhance mathematical reasoning and theorem-proving abilities.

🧠 Food for thought

1️⃣ The rise of specialized AI models within larger ecosystems

DeepSeek’s Prover series highlights a growing industry trend where companies develop specialized, domain-specific models that enhance their broader AI systems.

The math-focused Prover-V2 model was built on top of DeepSeek’s massive 671 billion parameter V3 model, demonstrating how specialized capabilities can be integrated into general-purpose systems 1.

This approach parallels Alibaba’s strategy with Qwen3, which features specialized capabilities in math, coding, and reasoning tasks while maintaining general intelligence 2.

Both companies recognize that domain-specific excellence in areas like mathematical reasoning can significantly differentiate their AI offerings in the competitive market.

These specialized models serve as both standalone tools and components that strengthen the capabilities of flagship general-purpose models, creating more comprehensive AI ecosystems.

2️⃣ Mixture-of-experts architecture emerges as key efficiency driver
