Chinese AI startup DeepSeek has introduced discounted off-peak pricing for developers using its AI models.
The price reductions, announced on Feb.26, could heighten competition in the AI industry both within China and internationally.
The Hangzhou-based company stated that API usage costs will decrease by up to 75% between 16.30 GMT and 00.30 GMT.
Specifically, the R1 model API will have a 75% discount, while the V3 model API will see a 50% price cut during this timeframe.
Notably, this “off-peak” period coincides with standard daytime hours in Europe and the United States.
