Databricks, a San Francisco-based data and AI software company, said on July 24 that it had expanded its partnership with Microsoft into the 2030s.

The deal includes deeper product integration and more use of Azure infrastructure.

It also covers running Databricks’ core operations and analytics on Azure Databricks, while expanding its use of Azure Cobalt processors.

The move builds on the companies’ long-running alliance through Azure Databricks, which was announced in 2017 and launched as a first-party Azure service in 2018.

Databricks said it currently uses Cobalt 100 and plans to adopt Cobalt 200, an Arm-based processor that Microsoft said delivers up to 50% better performance than its predecessor.

Microsoft said it will continue integrating Databricks features, including Genie and Unity AI Gateway, across its products, including Microsoft 365.

Microsoft Fabric can also mirror Unity Catalog metadata without moving data.

The broader integration could expand Databricks’ reach through Microsoft 365, which has about 450 million commercial subscribers.
