Danish drone tech startup Quadsat bags $5.8m series A

Danish startup Quadsat has secured a €5 million (US$5.8 million) extension to its series A funding to enhance its electronic warfare and spectrum intelligence capabilities.

The round was led by Join Capital and North Ventures, with participation from Seraphim Space Capital, EIFO, Helge Munk Holding, and TPC Management.

Founded in 2017 and based in Odense, Quadsat specializes in spectrum intelligence and RF geolocation solutions for satellite communications and defense.

Its technology helps identify threats like signal interference and jamming, enabling real-time responses across air, land, sea, cyber, and space.

The company will use the new funds to expand within NATO member countries and further develop its defense-focused products.

🧠 Food for thought

1️⃣ Electronic warfare experiencing renaissance after post-Cold War neglect

Quadsat’s funding reflects a broader revival of electronic warfare technologies that NATO had largely deprioritized since the Cold War’s end.

After the fall of the Soviet Union, electronic warfare (EW) investment declined significantly as NATO forces focused on counterinsurgency operations in Iraq and Afghanistan, where sophisticated electromagnetic threats were minimal 1.

The Russian invasion of Ukraine dramatically demonstrated the critical nature of EW capabilities, with extensive signal jamming and electromagnetic spectrum manipulation becoming central to modern battlefield operations 1.

This renewed focus explains why specialized companies like Quadsat can secure significant funding. The capability to precisely locate signal jammers and protect communications has transitioned from a technical specialty to a strategic necessity for modern militaries.

The evolution of EW has accelerated rapidly, moving from its roots in the early 20th century to today’s sophisticated drone-based systems that can dynamically monitor and protect against spectrum threats 2.

2️⃣ Defense tech startups attracting unprecedented investment amid rising geopolitical tensions

Quadsat’s €5 million raise occurs within a rapidly expanding defense technology investment landscape driven by global instability.

The broader defense sector is experiencing a significant funding surge, exemplified by Shield AI recently securing $240 million at a $5.3 billion valuation, one of the highest in defense tech 3.
