D2C nutrition brand Good Monk nets $2m pre-series A

Good Monk, a Bengaluru-based direct-to-consumer nutrition startup, has raised US$2 million in a pre-series A funding round.

The funding was led by RPSG Capital Ventures, with participation from existing investors Multiply Ventures, Sharrp Ventures, and ThinKuvate.

Founded in 2022 by Amarpreet Singh Anand and Sahiba Kaur, the startup creates flavorless nutrition mixes to be added to food.

The startup plans to allocate the new funding towards product development and research efforts.

🧠 Food for thought

1️⃣ India’s nutrition D2C space is attracting significant investment despite being highly competitive

Good Monk’s funding comes amid a broader surge in the health and wellness sector, where established brands have already secured substantial capital.

Wellbeing Nutrition, for example, raised $10 million in Series B funding in 2022, with Hindustan Unilever Limited acquiring a 19.8% stake for INR 70 crore 1.

The broader consumer tech sector, which includes nutrition brands, saw funding rise 2.3x to $5.4 billion in 2024, showing investors’ confidence in consumer-facing nutrition products 2.

This investment trend reflects the projected growth of India’s food and beverage D2C market, expected to reach $68 billion by 2030, creating space for multiple players with differentiated offerings 3.

Good Monk’s ability to secure funding as a two-year-old startup in this competitive landscape suggests investors see potential in its product-market fit and growth trajectory.

2️⃣ Product innovation is becoming critical for differentiation in the crowded nutrition market

Good Monk’s approach of creating nutrition mixes that blend into everyday meals without altering taste addresses a key consumer pain point in the nutrition space.

This product strategy contrasts with established players like Wellbeing Nutrition, which focuses on different delivery formats such as oral strips, effervescents, and capsules for its 53+ product SKUs 1.

The health food drink market in India, valued between $860 million and over $1 billion annually, has seen intense competition driving brands to innovate with higher protein content and better nutritional profiles 4.
