Cryptocurrency prices surged at the start of 2025, with bitcoin rising 2.9% to US$97,526 by Friday afternoon New York time, while several altcoins, including ether, XRP, and dogecoin, saw gains over 4%, and solana jumped 8.2%.
Crypto-related stocks also experienced price increases, with Coinbase up 5.6%, MicroStrategy rising 7.3%, and Mara Holding soaring by over 8%.
The rally may align with historical trends, as digital assets typically perform better in the first quarter, according to Cumberland Labs’ Chris Newhouse.
Frnt Financial’s Strahinja Savic said some investors are using a “buy the dip” strategy after December’s declines, while market observers remain optimistic about the overall bull market.
Increased interest in altcoins may also be tied to expectations of a more favorable regulatory environment under the Trump administration.
