Crypto thefts surge 21% to $2.2b in 2024: report

Funds stolen through cryptocurrency hacks reached US$2.2 billion in 2024, a 21% increase from previous year.

There were 303 hacking incidents reported, up from 282 in 2023, according to Chainalysis report.

This increase in crypto thefts correlates with 140% surge in Bitcoin prices, surpassing US$100,000 and attracting more institutional and political interest.

Most attacks targeted centralized platforms, exploiting private key vulnerabilities.
